When
we think "supportive celebrity couples," New England Patriots
Quarterback Tom Brady and international supermodel Gisele Bündchen
immediately come to mind. That's why it was a surprise to many when
Brady wasn't there cheering Bündchen on while she made her historic walk
down the world's longest runway at the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
It's not that Brady didn't want to be there to support his wife—work just got in the way.
"For
me, [the Olympics] are right in the middle of training camp so I need
to talk my coach out of a couple days of practice," he told People a few weeks before the Rio Games. "I haven't asked them so, we'll see!"
Unfortunately,
it looks like timing just didn't work out for the power couple on this
one, but we're sure Brady was supporting Bündchen enthusiastically from
home. And, like the gloriously independent woman she is, the
Horizontina, Brazil native had the time of her life celebrating the
Olympics in her home country.
"I
am so happy to be part of the opening ceremony in my homeland and to
celebrate these bright stars from around the globe," she wrote in a moving Instagram post
about the Olympics. "I truly believe that each Olympian lights the path
for the next young child dreaming of being at the Olympics and
encourages the practice of sports. As I walk down tonight on the longest
runway I have ever been on I will be sending out all my love and
positivity. I am humbled and honored to be part of this historic moment
for my country. I believe that the unity is the key to creating a world
filled with kindness, gratitude, peace, and love."
Everything about Bündchen's involvement with the Olympics has been truly beautiful, just like her.
